Samsung Note 7s that have not been returned will be ‘Bricked’ by a software update in Late December.
Around 2.5 million devices have been returned since September due to a possible issue regarding faulty lithium batteries catching fire. The issue was so bad that in October, Samsung stated they would stop the production of the note 7, two months after its initial release.
The software update which is coming later this month will prevent devices from charging and functioning as phones rendering them practically useless.
However some network providers such as Verizon are refusing to take part in the update. It said it would be risky for users who do not have another device to use over the christmas period. “We do not want to make it impossible to contact family, first responders or medical professionals in an emergency situation.”
